Hmm I need the picture of Captain Kirk with his head in his hand looking downwards.
m_forward and m_side are the speeds of when mouselook is deactivated (move forward/back with mouse) or mouselook is activated and lookstrafe is 1 (side to side mouse movement). These CVars also effect +strafe speed. These speeds have nothing to do with normal keyboard-strafing movement and settings those (above) to a large number is to just make the mouse move as much as possible.
I don't even know what you mean by "will it still work?" because it's not like your HL physics are suddenly going to stop working. Just read AnAkIn's first post, it's like setting cl_forward/side/backspeed to higher than 320, it has no effect.
